Shift, Caps Lock and other special keys
You practice letters, numbers, symbols, Shift and Space. This is what the trainer does with Shift and the keys you don't practice.
| Key | Finger | What the trainer does |
|---|---|---|
| Shift | The pinky of the hand that isn't typing the letter | Lights up on the keyboard while you hold it, and tells you if you used the Shift on the same side |
| Caps Lock | Left pinky | Lights up while it's on, with a note above the keyboard, because every letter would come out as a capital. Press it once to turn it off |
| Ctrl, Alt, Cmd (control, option, cmd on a Mac) | No fixed finger | Ignored: any key pressed with one of them is skipped, so copy, paste and other shortcuts keep working and never count as mistakes |
| Tab | Left pinky | Not practiced |
| Enter, Backspace (return and delete on a Mac) | Right pinky | Not practiced. You never need Backspace here: a wrong key doesn't count, so you just press the correct key |
Why Caps Lock gets a warning
It's the one special key that quietly breaks a round: you type correctly and every letter is wrong. The note names the key and the finger, so you can turn it off without looking.
