When you press a wrong key
A wrong key doesn't count: press the correct key to continue, so you can't reach the end of a line by mashing keys.
The line under the text says what happened. Press D when S was next and it reads: You pressed D, the left middle finger's key. S is for your left ring finger.

The wrong key flashes red on the keyboard, and the finger that strayed gets a dashed red outline on the hands. Most mistakes are one finger reaching into its neighbor's column; seeing it named is how you stop.
Which Shift key
Use the Shift on the other side: right Shift for letters your left hand types, left Shift for letters your right hand types, so the typing hand stays on its keys. If you use the Shift on the same side, the line under the text says so.
Finger hints
The Finger hints setting, at the end of the line under the text, has three choices:
- Always: the next key and finger are always lit.
- When I pause: they light up after about a second without a key.
- After a mistake: nothing is lit until you press a wrong key; then the correct key and finger light up.
Start with Always. When a stage feels easy, switch to When I pause, then After a mistake.
